President & CEO's Message |

June 16, 2017
As Magical Dining Grows, So Does Our Goodwill
I'm delighted to share some exciting news that, due to the ever-growing success of Visit Orlando's Magical Dining Month, this year we will be able to support not one, but two, of Orlando's wonderful charities. We are happy to announce that this year's two recipients will be Freedom Ride, an organization offering therapeutic horseback riding programs for children and adults, and BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation, which provides support to kids and their families living with the life-threatening illness.
During our Magical Dining program, our local restaurant members donate $1 from each meal served and last year the program raised a record $195,125 for the Russell Home for Atypical Children.
Along with our sponsor, American Express, we look forward to kicking off this year's Magical Dining Month which runs from Aug. 25 - Oct. 1. Not only does this program showcase our award-winning chefs and their creativity, it also provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy many of the culinary creations Orlando has to offer - all while dining for a cause.
We are already receiving lots of interest from consumers wanting to know which restaurants are participating, and what the menus will be. Stay tuned to Tourism Matters for the latest updates so you can make your own plans in advance - and take advantage of our destination's incredible dining experiences at a great value!
-George Aguel

More Americans Planning Summer Vacations, but with Caveats
The 17th annual survey by travel insurance provider Generali Global Assistance found that more Americans are planning summer vacations, but for less days and at greater savings. The survey found that 66 percent of Americans plan to travel this summer, an increase of five percentage points from last year. However, these summer vacations will be over an average of 1.4 weeks, which is a decrease from the 1.7 weeks taken last year. Responders also are planning to decrease their budgets by 20 percent. In other points of interest, the survey also found that hotel stays are still the most popular form of lodging among Americans on vacation (57 percent), followed by friends and family (32 percent) and person-to-person rentals or exchanges (18 percent).
